Tucson, AZ – Woman Injured After Hit-and-Run at Speedway Blvd

Tucson, AZ (April 13, 2020) – A pregnant woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Speedway Boulevard and Swan Road on April 7.

Officers from Operations Division Midtown were dispatched to the intersection of East Speedway Boulevard and North Swan Road for the report of a serious injury collision involving a pickup truck and a passenger car around 2:00 p.m. Upon arrival, Tucson Fire personnel responded to the scene and rendered aid to the driver and passenger of a 2018 Ford Focus. The passenger was an adult female who was 24 weeks pregnant. She was transported via ambulance to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries.

According to witness interviews, the Ford Focus was traveling westbound on Speedway Boulevard. An older model maroon Nissan Titan was traveling eastbound on Speedway in the left turn lane, preparing to turn north onto Swan Road. Witnesses stated that the two vehicles collided in the intersection, and the Nissan then fled the scene, traveling northbound on Swan Road.

The driver of the Ford stopped immediately and remained at the scene for the investigation. Interviews in conjunction with roadway evidence determined that speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

When the passenger arrived at the hospital, the medical staff there determined that an emergency procedure was necessary, and her child was delivered that evening. On Thursday, the child passed away.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges or citations have been issued at this time.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victim in hopes of a full recovery. Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.
