Tucson, AZ (December 4, 2019) – One person has been pronounced dead after a pedestrian collision that occurred on Tucson’s west side last night.
Just after 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from Operations Division West and the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of West Anklam Road and Centennial Drive for a pedestrian accident. Tucson Fire Medics attempted to render aid at that time but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to interviews conducted by officers and detectives, the pedestrian was southwest of St. Mary’s Hospital when he was struck by a westbound-traveling vehicle. The suspect vehicle did not stop and fled the scene. The suspect’s vehicle information has not been released at this time.
Detectives are withholding the pedestrian’s identity and are asking anyone with information to call 88-CRIME, an anonymous tip line.
We offer our condolences to the deceased victim’s family at this time.
One pedestrian is hit and killed every two hours nationwide, per a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association. And nationwide, Arizona tops the list when it comes to pedestrian fatalities. In fact, authorities say that there has been a 35 percent rise in pedestrian deaths over the last decade. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable to serious injuries or death as a result of these accidents, even when they’re following traffic laws and using crosswalks.
From high medical costs to long-term physical problems and lost wages, pedestrians suffer greatly after these crashes. Furthermore, many of these pedestrian accidents are hit-and-run crashes, where those responsible for crashes leave the scene to avoid legal consequences. However, the victims and families affected by these accidents can seek aid from a skilled personal injury lawyer.
