Scottsdale, AZ – McKenzie Portugal Struck & Injured in Scooter Crash at Camelback Rd

Scottsdale, AZ (November 3, 2019) – A woman was hit and seriously injured by a car while riding a scooter on Halloween.

According to officers from the Scottsdale Police Department, 21-year-old McKenzie Portugal was riding her scooter at the intersection of Goldwater Boulevard and Camelback Road in Old Town. Portugal says she had a green crosswalk and was crossing when a black sedan turned left and struck her.

A witness driving by stopped and called 911, but the suspect who hit Portugal was gone. The description of the car is vague, but witnesses and police officers say it’s a black sedan, possibly a Cadillac or Buick, low to the ground with chrome detailing.

Following the crash, Portugal stayed in the hospital for several days. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not located the hit-and-run vehicle. Any person with information on the suspect vehicle should call the Scottsdale Police Department.

Our thoughts are extended to McKenzie Portugal in hopes of a fast recovery.

Scooter and Bicycle Accidents in Arizona

Scottsdale, AZ - McKenzie Portugal Struck & Injured in Scooter Crash at Camelback Rd

According to local authorities, scooter accidents have reached triple digits in metro Phoenix, as well as other high-population areas across the state. In fact, many cities have approved regulations for dockless bicycles and shared electric scooters, including licensing fees and a cap on the number operated at any given time.

However, these incidents are still on the rise statewide. And when scooter accidents occur, they’re more likely to involve hit-and-run accidents. After these incidents, victims are left with high medical costs, long-term physical problems, and emotional trauma. That’s why it’s essential for victims and their families to speak with an Arizona personal injury attorney in their time of need.
