Pinal County, AZ (November 6, 2019) – A detention officer from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is recovering in the hospital after an accident on Tuesday morning.

The detention officer, who was training new academy cadets, went out for a morning jog with his class on Diversion Dam Road in Florence and he was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured. Paramedics arrived at the scene to transport him to a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said. He was alert when he arrived and underwent surgery for a laceration in his arm. He also suffered from several broken bones, though medical staff said that he is now recovering.

Investigators said the driver of the vehicle was cooperative and stayed on the scene, but the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
