Phoenix, AZ – Woman Struck & Killed in Crash at 32nd St & Washington St

Phoenix, AZ (January 1, 2020) – Police say a woman has died after she was struck by a red-light runner on Tuesday night.

Phoenix police officers responded to the intersection of 32nd Street and Washington Street around 10:00 p.m to investigate reports of a two-car collision, per reports from Phoenix police spokeswoman Mercedes Fortune. Police say an airport shuttle was traveling northbound on 32nd Street when it was struck by a red-light runner traveling eastbound on Washington.

The driver of the bus, a 39-year-old man, and one passenger, a 74-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. The victim, a 75-year-old woman who was struck and seriously injured, was transported to the hospital but later pronounced dead.

The 49-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck, remained at the scene and was transported to the hospital, Fortune said. Impairment and failure to stop at a red light are said to be factors in the crash, though the accident remains under investigation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
