Phoenix, AZ – UPDATE: Woman in Critical Condition After Crash at 43rd Ave


Phoenix, AZ (November 1, 2019) – Phoenix police are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run incident that left one woman in critical condition on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, when a vehicle traveling northbound along 43rd Avenue hit the pedestrian as she crossed in the middle of the block, according to reports from the Phoenix Police Department.

The vehicle was described as a blue car that fled the scene and drove northbound after the crash occurred. The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to Phoenix police, though her identity was not released.

Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said officers found a wheelchair at the scene but couldn’t immediately determine whether the woman was sitting in the wheelchair when she was struck. The Arizona Department of Transportation said the north and southbound lanes of 43rd Avenue between Indian School Road and Clarendon Avenue were closed while authorities continued their investigation.
