Phoenix, AZ – UPDATE: Driver Charged in Fatal Accident at 35th Ave & Bell Rd

Phoenix, AZ (December 27, 2019) – Officers from the Phoenix Police Department are seeking criminal charges after a north Phoenix crash that left an 18-year-old man dead.

Police say that they will submit charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment to the county attorney at the conclusion of the investigation. A department news release stated that the 18-year-old man was identified as Jonathan Marroquin.

On Thursday morning, the 25-year-old male driver of a 2013 Dodge Avenger was traveling west on Bell Road and sped into the intersection at 35th Avenue, colliding with an eastbound 2005 Ford Mustang that turned left in front of him at the intersection. That collision caused the Avenger to spin and drift several hundred feet onto a sidewalk, hitting four pedestrians, including Marroquin.

Both drivers were uninjured in the crash, and neither driver was found to be impaired, but Cox said that speed appears to be a factor for the driver of the Avenger.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Our condolences go out to the family of Jonathan Marroquin at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
