Phoenix, AZ (January 1, 2021) – Two people are fighting for their lives in an area medical center after an early morning car crash occurred in Phoenix on New Year’s Day.

Per reports from the Phoenix Police Department, the accident happened at about 4:00 a.m. in the area of 39th Avenue and Roosevelt Street, which is located south of Interstate 10. News video from the scene showed one car flipped upside down on the hoods of two other vehicles that appeared to be parked in a driveway.

Officials with the Phoenix Fire Department said that two vehicles were involved in the crash. First responders dispatched to the scene say that a 22-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were both in critical condition when they were transported to the hospital via ambulance.

Investigators are piecing together the events leading up to the crash, though they say that it’s not clear if impairment was a factor. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
