Phoenix, AZ (October 5, 2019) – Northbound Interstate 17 was shut down Saturday night after a pedestrian was struck and killed.

According to officers from the Phoenix Police Department, the incident occurred near the Glendale Avenue exit. Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that all northbound lanes were blocked by the collision and that traffic was being rerouted while police investigated the fatal accident.

It is unclear if the driver involved stayed at the scene, but it appears that paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. No further details about the incident have been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
