Phoenix, AZ (June 28, 2019) – A deadly auto accident occurred late Thursday night, killing one person.

A vehicle crashed into a canal near 35th Avenue and Durango Street after 11:00 p.m. Phoenix Fire Department officials say they were called out to the scene to assist with the vehicle.

According to police, the vehicle reportedly crashed through the intersection, rolled and landed in the water. Both firefighters and the driver of the vehicle made it out of the water safely; however, officials confirmed the presence of another occupant in the car, an adult woman, and her body was recovered.

Police say the 26-year-old male driver was impaired and was not cooperating with investigators. Police say he will be booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge.
