Phoenix, AZ (May 14, 2020) – A police sergeant with the Phoenix Police Department suffered injuries after an alleged red-light runner hit his patrol SUV late Monday evening.

Officers from the Phoenix Police Department say that the wreck happened around 11:00 p.m. in the area of 24th Street and McDowell Road. Per Sgt. Tommy Thompson, the other driver ran a red light. That person’s car then collided with the police officer’s SUV. Footage from the scene showed significant front-end damage to the officer’s SUV, as well as damage to the driver’s side of the car.

The sergeant behind the wheel of SUV was treated on the scene and transported to a local hospital. He was later released and is recovering at home.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Phoenix Police Department.
