Phoenix, AZ (November 5, 2019) – Early yesterday morning around 1:45 a.m., a Tempe officer was injured in a serious car accident on AZ-51 involving two vehicles.

According to authorities, the accident occurred when two officers were headed to handle a missing person case and were traveling along in two separate vehicles. One officer’s vehicle collided with another vehicle near an exit on the highway. The second officer’s vehicle became involved in the collision as well.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was identified as a 27-year-old man from Ohio, who was hospitalized with serious injuries. His identity is not yet known. The officer whose vehicle initially struck the passenger vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The collision remains under investigation at this time.
