Phoenix, AZ – Multi-Vehicle Crash Causes Injuries on I-10 Papago at SR 51
Phoenix, AZ (September 15, 2020) – A crash involving at least two vehicles shut down the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 10 transition ramp to State Route 51 in the greater Phoenix area on Tuesday evening, resulting in injuries.
According to local officers and fire rescue units, the crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. and blocked the entire transition ramp. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said that it appears that a sedan collided with at least one other vehicle in a rear-end accident in the transition ramp to SR 51 northbound. However, no life-threatening injuries were reported.
Phoenix fire rescue units, as well as local paramedics, were at the scene to treat the injured victims and may have transported one victim to an area hospital.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Highway Car Wrecks in Arizona
When it comes to highway accidents in Arizona, serious injuries and even fatalities are par for the course. In fact, nearly one thousand motor vehicle crashes ended in death in 2018 alone. And another 37,000 injury accidents on major highways and thoroughfares, resulting in more than 50,000 injuries.
Furthermore, a recent report showed that Arizona has some of the deadliest roads in the country.
A report released last week by TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit, stated that there are 1.09 deaths for every 100 million vehicle miles traveled in Arizona. During the past four years, 642 people were killed in accidents on interstates in Arizona. Plus, authorities say that at least 43% of those killed were involved in crashes where speeding was a factor. At least 36% of crash fatalities were caused by impairment, and finally, at least 41% of those killed weren’t wearing a safety belt.
After these highway accidents caused by another driver’s negligence, victims may suffer from long-term physical issues, costly medical bills, and even job loss or death as a result of their serious injuries.
