Phoenix, AZ (July 15, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon, July 15th, blocked all lanes on I-40 westbound past Ash Fork.
According to officials, the injury accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. It appeared to involve multiple vehicles that collided in the center lanes and stopped traffic on I-40, also called Route 66. Police and fire rescue units were on the scene to assist victims and determine the cause of the wreck.
All lanes reopened around 2:00 p.m., but traffic remained slow throughout the area and authorities were still investigating the crash. Officials have not released the victims’ information or their conditions.
In Arizona, auto accidents were responsible for nearly 55,000 injuries and more than 1,000 fatalities in 2018 alone. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the total number of injuries is down after reaching a 10-year high in 2017, but the number of fatalities is up overall. And now that summer weather has brought more traffic to Arizona roads, the risk of these serious incidents for drivers, bikers, and pedestrians is increased.
These wrecks have unforeseen, often tragic, consequences for victims and their families, including long-term injuries, exorbitant medical expenses, and even job loss.
