Phoenix, AZ (July 15, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash occurred early Monday morning, July 15th, on I-17 near Jomax Road.
According to officials, the injury accident occurred around 8:00 a.m. and appeared to involve multiple vehicles, which collided in the center lane of southbound I-17, also known as the Black Canyon Freeway. Police and fire rescue authorities were on the scene to assist victims and determine the cause of the wreck.
The incident blocked the center lane and obstructed the traffic across the other lanes of I-17. All lanes reopened just before 9:00 a.m. Officials are still investigating the wreck and have not released the victims’ information at this time.
Nearly 55,000 injuries and more than 1,000 fatalities occurred as a result of auto accidents in Arizona in 2018. And though the total number of injuries across the state is down from 2017, the number of fatalities from crashes is on the rise. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, summer weather brings more traffic to Arizona roads, increasing the risk of these serious incidents.
