Phoenix, AZ (July 27, 2019) – An injury accident on Saturday evening, July 27th, closed the right lane of I-17 at Northern Avenue.
Authorities responded to the scene of the accident around 8:48 p.m., which occurred when several vehicles traveling southbound collided on I-17, also known as the Black Canyon Freeway, at Northern Avenue. Police and fire rescue units were at the scene of the crash to assist victims and investigate the cause of the multi-vehicle incident.
All lanes reopened at 9:30 p.m., but the drivers’ information, as well as their conditions, have not been released.
Nearly 55,000 crashes and more than 35,000 injuries from those crashes occurred in 2018 across Arizona, part of a year-over-year increase in severe incidents. And according to data from the Arizona Department of Transportation, more traffic is on Arizona state highways for the summer, leading to a higher risk of these dangerous wrecks.
