Phoenix, AZ (August 9, 2019) – An injury accident on Friday evening, August 9th, blocked the HOV transition ramp from Loop 202 to Interstate 10.
Officials at the scene say that the multi-vehicle collision occurred around 7:40 p.m. when at least two sedans collided in the HOV transition ramp of L-202 westbound, also known as the Red Mountain Freeway, at I-10 westbound. Police and fire rescue units were on the scene shortly after the crash occurred and were assisting injured victims.
All lanes were cleared by 8:30 p.m., though the crash is still under investigation and the drivers’ information, as well as the extent of their injuries, have not been released.
The Arizona Department of Transportation’s most recent report shows that more than 35,000 injuries occurred as a result of collisions across the state in 2018 alone. In fact, ADOT’s newest numbers are part of a year-over-year rise in injury wrecks since 2015. From the nearly 55,000 total accidents last year, more than half of those involved multiple injured victims and more than one vehicle.
