Phoenix, AZ (December 23, 2019) – Officers from the Phoenix Police Department say that at least one driver was hit and injured by a wrong-way driver on State Route 51 near Highland Avenue on Monday.

According to officials, at least one victim was sent to a local area hospital, and the suspected wrong-way driver was left with life-threatening injuries. Information from the Arizona Department of Public Safety stated that the incident occurred near the Highland Avenue exit around 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

It appears that the accident happened when a white SUV collided head-on with a sedan in the right lanes of northbound State Route 51. The victims’ identities have not been released at this time, and the accident remains under investigation.
