Phoenix, AZ (July 21, 2019) – An accident on Saturday evening, July 20th, sent one bicyclist to the hospital.
According to Phoenix police, the cyclist was hit by a vehicle just before 6:30 p.m. near 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road. The cyclist, a 35-year-old man, was riding his bike through a shopping center parking lot when he entered a roadway and collided with the side of a 2006 Nissan Frontier truck.
First responders were on the scene to assist the cyclist, who was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition. Phoenix police say that the pick-up truck driver remained on-scene and was not injured in the wreck. Officials say neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors leading to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation at this time, and the identities of the cyclist and the driver have not been released.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

For the first six months of 2018, Arizona had a pedestrian death rate of 1.4 fatalities per 100,000 individuals and by the end of the year, almost 200 pedestrian fatalities had occurred.
