Phoenix, AZ (December 11, 2019) – A small airplane crash-landed on Wednesday morning near 23rd Avenue and Deer Valley Road, per information from Phoenix fire officials.

The aircraft, a Piper PA-34, was on its final approach to Deer Valley Airport when it landed west of Interstate 17, according to Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. The crash occurred shortly before 8:20 a.m., approximately two miles from the airport. The two people on the aircraft, a 48-year-old pilot and a 42-year-old passenger, were taken to a hospital via ambulance. said Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a spokeswoman for the department.

The pilot is believed to be a flight instructor, Fortune said. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash at this time.
