Phoenix, AZ – 14-Year-Old Identified After Fatal Crash at 51st Avenue

Phoenix, AZ (July 23, 2019) – On Sunday morning, July 21st, police responded to the scene of a fatal crash that took place at the intersection of 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.

Police claim that a 14-year-old girl, who has since been identified as Ella Thomas, was killed in the accident, according to authorities. The accident took place around 4:40 a.m. when a garbage truck and a passenger vehicle collided with one another.

The Hyundai had been traveling southbound and entered into the intersection on a red light. The vehicle then collided with an eastbound garbage truck who had a green light at the time.

The two vehicles became entangled and ran into two large trees, where the garbage truck then toppled over onto the vehicle. Ella, a passenger in the Hyundai, died at the scene of the crash. The 16-year-old driver of the Hyundai is in stable condition at this time.

There were also two other teens in the Hyundai who received minor injuries. A 50-year-old man had been driving the garbage truck and is expected to be okay.

Police have claimed that the accident happened due to speed and failing to yield. The investigation into the accident continues at this time.

Our sincere condolences are warmly extended to the family and friends of the girl whose life was taken in this serious accident.
