Mesa, AZ (October 20, 2019) – A 2-year-old boy was found in a condominium complex pond after nearly drowning on Saturday night.
According to authorities, the condo is located near Baseline and Dobson Roads. When authorities arrived on the scene, they began performing life-saving measures before transporting the boy to a local area hospital via ambulance. The boy’s condition is still unknown.
Mesa firefighters arrived at the Water Works Condominiums after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night to find the child in an unfenced pond area. Neighbors said that the child doesn’t live there and was visiting family members at the complex. Now, residents with young children are questioning the safety of the pond area, which is reported to be at least three feet deep and not gated.
Authorities are still investigating the accident at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a quick recovery.
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for toddlers and preschool-aged children, with several victims drowning in circumstances caused by negligence. In fact, statistics show that nearly 400 children under the age of 15 drown each year countrywide. When young children encounter unfenced pools or ponds on another individual’s property, tragic, unforeseen circumstances can occur.
But those affected by these unfortunate incidents can contact a personal injury lawyer, especially when they’ve been involved in drowning accidents due to the negligent actions of other parties
