Mesa, AZ – Toddler Hospitalized After Drowning Accident at Broadway Rd

Mesa, AZ (August 16, 2020) – A 1-year-old boy is in critical condition after a drowning accident at a home near Broadway Road and Signal Butte Road on Sunday evening.

Per reports from the scene of the incident, the boy was underwater for an unknown amount of time and was pulled out of the swimming pool by family members. Mesa Fire and Medical, as well as crews with Superstition Medical, responded to the call and began administering life-saving measures when they arrived at the scene.

Firefighters say that they were able to get the child to start breathing but he remained unresponsive. He was then transported via ambulance in critical condition to a local children’s hospital. He remains in the hospital at this time.

Police officers didn’t say whether the boy’s family owned the pool, and they have not released further details about the incident. It’s unclear how the drowning occurred or what time the boy was discovered in the pool, but the accident remains under investigation at this time.

Our thoughts are with the victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
