Mesa, AZ (July 24, 2019) – A multi-vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon, July 24th, occurred on US-60 near Alma School Road.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. According to police, at least two vehicles appear to be involved in the wreck, which occurred when the vehicles traveling eastbound on US-60, also known as the Superstition Freeway, collided in the right lane at the bottom of the Alma School on-ramp. Authorities were on the scene to assist those involved in the accident and investigate the cause of the crash. All lanes reopened just before 6:30 p.m., but information about the drivers and their families has not been released at this time.
Severe incidents involving injuries or deaths are on the rise. In fact, nearly 55,000 injuries and more than 1,000 deaths occurred from crashes statewide last year, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. And ADOT statistics indicate that the summer months bring more traffic to highways, resulting in an increased risk of these dangerous wrecks.
