Mesa, AZ (August 7, 2019) – A multi-vehicle injury wreck on Wednesday afternoon, August 7th, blocked the HOV lane and left lane on Loop 101 before Loop 202.
Officials say that the crash occurred around 3:41 p.m. when at least two vehicles, including one sedan and one SUV, collided in the HOV and left lanes of L-101 southbound, also known as the Pima Freeway, before L-202, or the Red Mountain Freeway. Police and fire rescue units responded to the accident to assist injured victims and investigate the cause of the wreck.
All lanes were cleared by 5:15 p.m. However, the drivers’ information and the extent of their injuries have not been released at this time.
A recent report released by the Arizona Department of Transportation showed that more than 35,000 accident injuries occurred across the state in 2018. These numbers are part of a year-over-year rise in serious injury wrecks since 2015, and of the nearly 55,000 total accidents last year, more than half of those crashes involved multiple vehicles.
