Goodyear, AZ (December 21, 2019) – Authorities are investigating a plane crash that occurred near Phoenix Goodyear Airport on Saturday night.
Officers from the Goodyear Police Department said that a Phoenix police helicopter located a Cessna on its roof about a mile south of the airport, located near Estrella Parkway and Vineyard Avenue. Initial reports indicate that the plane struck a power line as it went down. Officers believe the pilot may be deceased but have not released details about the other passengers or about the pilot’s identity.
There are reports of high voltage lines down in the area, though ground crews are trying to gain access to the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the accident.
Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time in hopes of a full recovery.
Per a report from the Aviation Safety Network, only one fatality accident occurs in every three million flights. However, injuries and crashes involving small planes are more common and can occur due to pilot error, faulty equipment or inclement weather.
Though airplane accidents are rare, they are often traumatic, both physically and emotionally. If you’ve been injured in a plane crash, you should contact a personal injury attorney to review your options.
