Glendale, AZ – Woman Struck & Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver at 75th Ave

Glendale, AZ (June 9, 2020) – A woman has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and hitting and killing a pedestrian on Sunday.

According to officers with the Glendale Police Department, the accident occurred around 4:50 p.m. Shortly before the crash occurred, authorities received a call of a possible drunk driver near 75th Avenue and Glendale Avenue traveling eastbound on Glendale.

Police reports state that the driver, 29-year-old Ashley Cliff, passed an unmarked police patrol car at a high rate of speed before she went over a raised center median and drove across three lanes of traffic. Cliff’s vehicle then struck a pedestrian and continued into a front yard, causing damage to the property.

The pedestrian was found lying on the roadway near the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Cliff was taken to the hospital for treatment of a fractured leg. Her two children, a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old, who were in the vehicle with her were also transported to the hospital.

Medical personnel determined that Cliff had a .318 blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash. Police also stated that Cliff’s license was revoked in January 2019 after a previous DUI conviction.

Cliff’s two children were removed by the Department of Child Safety, and she was booked into jail on various charges. At this time, her charges include aggravated DUI, endangerment, and manslaughter.

No further information has been released, but the accident remains under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased victim at this time.
