Glendale, AZ (January 25, 2020) – A woman and an 8-year-old boy are recovering after being struck by a suspected impaired driver on Saturday night.
Authorities from the Phoenix Police Department say that officers were stopped at the intersection of 24th Street and Van Buren Street when they saw a vehicle turning left on 24th Street–hitting a woman and a young boy walking in the crosswalk.
Officers say the driver, identified as 58-year-old Abe F. Mejia, remained on the scene and was evaluated for impairment. He was arrested shortly after the incident occurred. The woman and child were transported to a local area hospital via ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Mejia was arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
