Cordes Lakes, AZ (October 13, 2019) – Injuries were reported in a serious accident on southbound Interstate 17 early Sunday.
Per reports from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the wreck occurred on I-17 in Cordes Lakes at milepost 262, just outside Mayer. Arizona State Troopers arrived on the scene shortly after the crash occurred and said that a motorcycle collided with another vehicle, though they didn’t provide details about the car involved.
Before troopers arrived at the scene of the accident, the motorcyclist was lying in the road while traffic continued passing in the next lane. The injured motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital by paramedics in serious condition. Further information on the rider’s injuries, as well as their current condition, has not been released. The other driver appears to have sustained minor injuries in the collision.
Authorities closed the freeway near milepost 262 to investigate the wreck. Heavy delays from the accident stopped traffic all the way back to State Route 69, according to a spokesperson from the Arizona Department of Transportation. Officers advised motorists to use alternative routes while they continued to work at the scene and clear crash debris.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Across the state, motorcycle wrecks have more than doubled in the last 25 years, per the latest data published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Furthermore, recent crash statistics indicate that one in seven fatalities on roads nationwide occurred on a motorcycle. Due to the nature of riding, motorcyclists are far more vulnerable to serious injuries or even death than vehicle drivers, even while wearing helmets and protective gear.
Whether it’s long-term physical issues and costly medical bills or lost wages from time spent recovering, motorcycle crash victims suffer from tragic, unforeseen circumstances. But the victims and their families affected by these serious wrecks can contact a Phoenix accident lawyer for help.
