Chandler, AZ – Children Hospitalized After Car Crash at Hamilton & Erie StArizona Legal News
Chandler, AZ (July 29, 2019) – Two children were injured and hospitalized early Sunday morning, July 28th, after a man crashed his car into a Chandler home.
According to officials, 30-year-old Michael Ortega was arrested after driving through a yard and into the front of a home at Hamilton Street and Erie Street. The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. and police responded to the scene a short time later. When police arrived at the scene of the accident, the homeowner of the damaged house was chasing Ortega on foot.
Two children inside the home reportedly suffered head injuries from flying debris, including concrete, and both were transported to the local hospital.
After he was arrested, Ortega admitted to drinking beer and smoking marijuana before the crash, and allegedly apologized and said he “made a huge mistake.”
His blood-alcohol concentration at the time of the crash has not been released, nor has information about the homeowner or the condition of the children been released.
Ortega faces two counts of aggravated assault, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia, hit and run, and criminal damage.
