Black Canyon City, AZ (November 24, 2019) – A wrong-way driver caused a serious crash that resulted in several injuries on Interstate 17 Sunday night near Black Canyon City.
According to officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the wrong-way crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-17 near the Bumble Bee Road exit. DPS officials say a pickup truck was driving southbound in the northbound lanes for about two miles before crashing into another vehicle near Bumble Bee Road.
The high-speed impact caused severe damage to both vehicles involved, and two people were rescued from one of the vehicles. One person was trapped in the second vehicle and also had to be rescued from the wreckage. Fire rescue officials say multiple people were taken to area hospitals with very serious injuries. DPS added that impairment is believed to be involved, though Interstate 17 was closed for several hours while DPS investigated.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for a full recovery.
Typically caused by impaired, distracted or otherwise negligent drivers, wrong-way crashes mean severe consequences for those involved. In fact, wrong-way collisions, more than any other type of crash, occur when drivers are under the influence. Furthermore, studies show that nearly 90 percent of these wrong-way accidents are caused by some sort of driver negligence.
Tragic, unforeseen consequences may plague victims and their families after these wrong-way wrecks. Due to the nature of these serious crashes, which are often head-on collisions, victims are much more vulnerable to serious injury or even death. But those affected can contact a Phoenix accident lawyer for help, and in some cases, seek the fair compensation they deserve from a personal injury suit or wrongful death suit.
