Avondale, AZ – UPDATE: Alika Lyau-Goowin Killed in Crash at Dysart Rd

Avondale, AZ (October 25, 2019) – One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a crash in Avondale early Wednesday morning.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, four vehicles were involved in the crash on MC-85, between Dysart Road and El Mirage Road, around 12:39 a.m. MCSO said two people were underneath a vehicle securing tow straps when another vehicle rear-ended one of those vehicles, injuring both the people securing the straps.

The two injured in the wreck have been identified by MCSO as 18-year-old Alika Lyau-Goowin and 18-year-old Josiah Gerona. They were transported to a hospital where Lyau-Goowin was pronounced dead. Gerona had life-threatening injuries but is now in stable condition.

According to MCSO, 23-year-old Marianna Villalobos Lopez was driving the car, a red 2013 Dodge Charger that collided with the vehicle Goowin and Gerona were under. The wreck then caused the four-car pile-up.

Lopez was also transported to the hospital, and her condition is stable. MCSO said the other four people involved in the crash sustained only minor injuries and did not need to be hospitalized.

Authorities are still investigating the crash and say speed could have had an impact.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family of Alika Lyau-Goowin at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims, including Josiah Gerona, in hopes of a full recovery.
